GunWerkz started out of my garage in the summer of 2010 as I was trying to come up with a drilling and tapping fluid that worked better than the rest of the products that I have used over the past 40 years and did not leave an oily mess that was hard to wash off. Since my teen years I have always been building something either out of wood or metal and working with metal creates its own set of challenges. One of those being drilling and tapping holes in metal and aluminum. You either drill it dry or you get some drilling and tapping fluid and it makes a mess that is not as easy to clean up as you would like it to be. So you would drive down to the local hardware store (or ride your bike because in my case I was 12 at the time) and buy what they stocked on the shelf. Back then you didn't have too many choices and typically what you started using you ended up using for the rest of your life. Along the way you would try different products but they all seemed about the same. Throughout the years I have tried numerous products and never really stuck with one brand or another.
Fast forward to 2010 where I was drilling some 3/4" plate steel and it was taking what seemed like forever (I was drilling 9/16" holes). Being a general contractor and cabinet maker for a profession I have access to a lot of different chemicals and fluids that the everyday homeowner doesn't, not wanting to use any petrochemical oils or anything, I grabbed some "natural" fluids from my bench where I do all my mixing of stains and such for cabinets and began experimenting with different formulations. Finally, after some time of trying different mixtures, I hit upon one formula that seemed to work really well. It didn't smell too bad when it smoked as I was drilling and it worked just as good as the expensive stuff that you can buy so I was off to searching the internet for some kind of additive to make it work better. I hadn't received this additive yet and my friend was over and I wanted to show him what I had come up with so far. As he was watching me drill a hole in metal without any fluid with a semi-dull drill bit and then drill the same size hole with the same drill bit using my concoction, he made a comment about how it cleaned the metal while I was drilling and how easily it cleaned off. His next comment was "I wonder how well it would clean my guns?" I gave him some and told him to try it and get back with me. A few days later, he called me and told me not to add anything to it and that he was amazed at how well it cleaned his gun.
And the rest is proving to be history. Join the following by trying some today and you too will be amazed at how well it "werkz"!
